Drawing of questions from the pool and random order of questions

The questionnaires prepared for the purposes of knowledge tests, quizzes or e-learning, used in schools or colleges constitute a specific type of surveys. The same applies to the situation when we want the questionnaires to contain an element of randomness – for whatever reasons. In such cases, we recommend using the question-draw feature from the available pool and using the random order of questions option. This is especially useful in the case of knowledge tests, because it allows for a significant reduction of the fraud. By using this option, each time you complete the question, the questionnaire will be displayed in a different order or the questions will be randomly selected from the larger pool.

How to set random display of questions or pages from the pool?

What is this option about? For example, if you have a test checking knowledge and prepared 50 questions, you can ask each of the respondents randomly selected only 20 of them. To do this, create a questionnaire containing 50 questions and place each question on a separate page. Of course, you can add pages with an introduction or ending which won’t be the subject to a lottery.

  • After you finish adding survey questions, select the „Settings” tab (1) then „Survey settings” (2).

  • Scroll to the „While completing the survey” section (3) and check the „Introduce the randomness” option (4).

  • Choose how many pages with questions should be displayed from a set range of pages. If there is an introduction and imprint on the first two pages, set the drawing option from a third page. Remember that all randomly drawn pages will also be displayed in a random order.
  • Next, go to the bottom of the page and save the modified survey settings (5).

How do you set up random display of questions?

  • After you finish adding survey questions, select the „Settings” tab (1) then „Survey settings” (2).

  • Scroll to the „While completing the survey” section (3) and check the „Introduce the randomness” option (4).

  • Choose the range of pages that will be randomly displayed. Thanks to the drop-down lists, you can choose only a few pages to be displayed randomly, and for example the first and last were always in place. Then, eat down the page and save the modified survey settings (5).

Worth to remember:

  • As not every question will be displayed to the respondent, the number of fills in the individual questions drawn from the pool will differ from each other.
  • Because the pages of the questionnaire are drawn rather than individual questions, it is necessary to create a questionnaire so that each question is on a separate page.
  • You can’t target filtered pages to pages viewed in a random order. To make this redirection possible, display the pages in a predetermined order.
